Spirit, Body, and Soul, Properly Defined.

Let's start with: Genesis 2:7

  • Genesis 2:7 [ASV] (American Standard Version)

  • And Jehovah God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Alright, Let's start this study by taking a look at the word "soul":

  • [Soul]

  • H5315   (Strong)

  • נֶפֶשׁ

  • nephesh

  • neh'-fesh

  • From H5314; properly a breathing creature, that is, animal or (abstractly) vitality; used very

  • widely in a literal, accommodated or figurative sense (bodily or mental): - any, appetite, beast, body, breath, creature, X dead (-ly), desire, X [dis-] contented, X fish, ghost, + greedy, he, heart (-y),

  • (hath, X jeopardy of) life (X in jeopardy), lust, man, me, mind, mortality, one, own, person,

  • pleasure, (her-, him-, my-, thy-) self, them (your) -selves, + slay, soul, + tablet, they, thing, (X she)

  • will, X would have it.

  •  Total KJV occurrences in the [ASV]: 753

  • [soul] = mortal breathing physical body

Are you with me so far? It is clear here that the word "Soul", means a mortal breathing body.

There are 753 occurrence in the "American Standard Version" canon. Throughout the old

testament, this is what soul means. Now, let's go to the new testament. Are you ready for this?

Here we go. Matthew  10:28

  • Matthew 10:28 (ASV)

  • 28 And be not afraid of them that kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Alright. Have you noticed anything odd, or wrong, here? Indeed there is. this translation, like most, by the way, is saying this:

 Matthew 10:28 (ASV)

  • 28 And be not afraid of them that kill the soul, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and soul in hell.

Alright, I guess another way to look at this translation would be:

  • Matthew 10:28 (ASV)

  • 28 And be not afraid of them that kill the body, but are not able to kill the body: but rather fear him who is able to destroy both body and body in hell.

Alright.... Enough of that silly stuff... Let's go to the Greek Strong's to look for the real meaning of the word "soul". We

already know that Yah has made clear to us in the old testament, that "soul", in the Hebrew

is H5314; properly a breathing creature, that is, animal. Let's go to the Greek Strong's to

look up the word "Soul"

  • (Strong's)

  • ψυχή

  • [soul]

  • psuchē

  • psoo-khay'

  • From G5594; breath, that is, (by implication) spirit,

With this in mind, is there anything odd going on with most western translations of Matthew 10:28? and Many, Many, Many, other verses throughout Most English New Testament Translations? Yes! "soul" Here, in the Greek, really interprets to "spirit", Not "Body". Therefore the true interpretation of Matthew 10:28 Should be as follows:

  • Matthew 10:28 (ASV)

  • 28 And be not afraid of them that kill the body (soul), but are not able to kill the spirit: but rather fear him who is able to destroy both spirit and body (soul) in hell.

There, that wasn't too hard, was it? Please, don't think for a minute that this, and many other blunders is by accident. It is not. The words have purposefully been twisted by those that do not have your best interest at heart. Additionally, Yah is allowing this to happen. Why? to give us the opportunity to find it for ourselves, by studying to be approved, and then, giving us the opportunity come out of Babylon. Here is Scripture to backup this claim. 1 Enoch 104:10-13.

1 Enoch 104:10-13 [Yah Scriptures]

10 And now I know this mystery, that sinners will change and pervert the Words of righteousness in many ways, and will speak wicked words, and lie, and practice great deceits, and write books concerning their words.
11 But when they write down truthfully all my words in their languages, and do not change or diminish ought from my words but write them all down truthfully - all that I first witnessed concerning them.
12 Then, I know another mystery, that books will be given to the righteous and the wise to become a cause of joy and uprightness and much wisdom.
13 “And to them shall the books be given, and they shall believe in them and rejoice over them, and then all the righteous who have learned from them - all the paths of uprightness - shall be recompensed.”

Let's Practice what Enoch Preached here in Matthew 10:28. Here are a couple of translation which can help us understand how to put the words back to how they should truly translate and be understood.

  • Matthew 10:28 [fbv2008eb] (Free Bible Version)

  • Don't be afraid of those who can kill you physically, but can't kill you spiritually. Instead, be afraid of the one who can destroy you physically and spiritually in Gehenna.

That is a sound translation. Let's take a look at another translation which also drives home that fact that Spirit, and Body (Soul) are two very different words.

  • Matthew 10:28 [nna2010eb] (Nyangumarta English Bible)

  • People might kill your body. Don't be afraid of them. They can't kill your spirit.  Fear only God. He can burn your spirit and body to ashes in the big fire.  People cannot do that.  Because of that do not be afraid of them.  Your Father above knows of everything.  He knows when a zebra finch falls to the ground.  Truly he knows of you also.  He knows the hair on your head.  One by one, all of it.  Because of that, stay without fear.  God just thinks a bit about the zebra finch, he really thinks about you always.

With this knowledge under our belts, Let's go out and Help our Loved ones, by telling them the Truth, by giving True Interpretations, to the gift of Scripture, that has been given to us by our Maker, Yah, that we love so very much. Praising Yahuah Elohim, and Yahusha, our High Priest and Messiah.
